David Schaefer:
In response to the impressionists philosophy, David Schaefer
creates a painting surface that is highly textural. With this
in mind, dense strokes of oil paint are used in contrast to
smooth areas. This contrast creates a dramatic effect which
echoes the artistic process of transformation. The direction
he's chosen illustrates how the laws of light, reflection
and shadow can be interpreted. The intense use of color appears
to be applied in a spontaneous manner. This random approach
gives emphasis to creating a memorable impression.
