Jen Violette:
Drawing inspiration from my rural Vermont surroundings
and my love of gardening, I carefully study the world around
me to capture the tiny subtleties and distinct characteristics
of the organic forms I portray in glass. Gardens have always
been an important focus of mine and are one of my great passions.
They are a means of connecting with the earth and creating
a union with the forces of nature. In a single growing season,
all the stages of life and its cycles are encountered. Recreating
these actions in glass reflects life's fragility. Molten glass
is the tool for my investigations and studies. Using my delicate
hand skills I create gestures - tiny observations in glass.
Elements are somewhat simplified, yet still maintain characteristics
specific to an object and gain importance when mounted on
the wall. I am also deeply inspired by still life paintings
from some of the great masters from our past. In my wall pieces,
I strive to create three dimensional still-life 'paintings'
incorporating realistic glass fruits and vegetables into a
more modern still-life setting.
