Kristin Gillespie:
Within our unconscious lie our dreams, which when evaluated can better our understanding of personal fear, guilt, or other repressed feelings. Nightmares along with idealized fantasies must be contemplated by the dreamer because the information can better our understanding of oneself. The images used in creating each piece exist from my own dreams and the idea of surreal experiences. I use iconographic images that have personal significance dealing with my own faith, anger, and fear.

Each face requires 100-150 hours to create by individually placing glass beads onto the surface of the form. Finally, the face is fixed to the glass giving an overall dream-like quality. This is open to interpretation from the viewer as to whether the face is submerging, rising, or simply floating. The random images are inconclusive to parallel the idea of dreams, which can be confusing and never having a beginning or end.

Kristin's work will be on exhibit at SOFA-Chicago.
