Kyoko Ibe: Washi
is a traditional Japanese method of creating beautiful and
durable paper dating back more than 1400 years. International
washi artist Kyoko Ibe was one of the first artists to seize
upon washi as a modern aritstic medium in the early 1970's.
She is inspired by natural movement such as wind. The sculpture
"Cosmos" seen below was commissioned through the
Katie Gingrass Gallery and is installed in the lobby of the
Wisconsin Heart Hospital. Ibe donated her time in memory of
her younger brother who died of heart disease. It is her hope
that viewing Cosmos will bring comfort to patients and their
loved ones through structured beauty and positive energy.
Ibe has major commissions in more than 23 countries and is
a regular exhibitor at the SOFA Expositions.
