Tom McQuaid:
All work is kiln-formed (fused) glass. I use a variety of sheet glass, including transparent and opalescent colors; some of which have iridescent or dichroic coatings. I also use glass enamels, powders, and stringers as well as inclusions of copper, silver, palladium, and gold leaf. The sheets of glass are cut and layered together with the other elements and then fired and annealed in an electric kiln to fuse all the separate components into one piece of art glass. Each piece is designed and individually hand made by myself. Being primarily self-taught I’ve had the opportunity to develop a unique, original style that is reflective of my personal process. Using color, form, texture, and composition I create contemporary abstract images in glass, which are inspired by my sensory experiences of the world around me, as well as by my imagination, which has been developed in part by exploring various art mediums.
