Christine
Sobczak :
After taking a break from my image making for several
years, I returned to the antique darkroom. As it is now the
digital age, I wasn't sure that I could still find the material
such as silver paper and the film necessary to return to black
and white photography. I did find what I needed. I also found
that there is still a magic and peace that can be found when
developing images in the darkroom which will never be replaced
by the computer.
I can only describe myself as a minimalist. I try to find
a way to present the humble object in a quiet and peaceful
way to the world. During my years in art school at the University
of Wisconsin Milwaukee, one of our assignments was to do solitary
objects. I just loved what I saw as my fellow students tacked
up their photographs for our critique of the assignment. And,
that lesson is where all of my images have come from since.
Humility is a life's lesson for me. My photographs will never
be about "Movie Stars" screaming to be recognized.
They are about what most of us would hope for, just a little
recognition in life.
