In addition to the internationally renowned museums found in the city, such the Grohmann Museum and the Milwaukee Art Museum, you’ll also find over 20 art galleries and studios with a majority of them located in the Third Ward neighborhood. We feel that art galleries provide new artists a great venue to exhibit their work.

Galleries like Frederick Layton Gallery, Gallery 505, The Underground Collaborative, The Green Gallery, and David Barnett Gallery are just a few galleries in the area helping local artists showcase their work. However, you’ll find more than just your local artist in these neighborhood galleries. Some of the most famous artists in the world have had their work shown in these galleries, including Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse.

We also like to showcase Milwaukee’s large and diverse population through the art and culture they bring into the city. Several major festivals such as the Polish Fest, Festa Italiana, German Fest, Indian Summer, Irish Fest and Mexican Fiesta, are held during the summer to celebrate and honor the diverse ethnic cultures, foods and entertainment.

Milwaukee’s dance and theatre companies provide audiences with great entertainment, whether it’s a Shakespeare play, an opera, or a kid- friendly adaptation, you’re sure to find something you like. The Marcus Center of the Performing Arts has hosted some of the biggest Broadway plays as well as local theatre companies. For something a little more cutting edge, the Broadway Theater Center, which can be found in the Historic Third Ward, has presented some amazing productions from top theatre companies such as Renaissance Theaterworks and the famous Skylight Music Theatre.

One of the cornerstones of Milwaukee’s performing arts scene is the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, which plays over 130 concerts each year. Another is the Milwaukee Ballet, which not only produces classics, but also amazes with new works as well. The Florentine Opera Company is a Grammy Award-winning performing arts organization and is also the oldest in the state.

Music plays a major role in Milwaukee’s art and culture scene. The city is home to old and new venues that attract some of the biggest names in the world. The Pabst Theater was built in 1895 and features a highly decorative interior and a large chandelier, creating an environment that has attracted a wide range of various artists. The historic Riverside Theater was once the home of vaudeville, now you’ll find superstar artists like Bob Dylan and Sheryl Crow performing there. And let’s not forget Summerfest, the biggest music festival in the world. This 11 day concert features hundreds of singers and bands and attract over a million fans from around the world.

Gingrass Gallery hopes to take its visitors on a tour of Milwaukee’s art scene, where you’ll get to witness a thriving and inspirational atmosphere perfect for cultivating new and bold ideas.
